The Philippines is known for the various islands that are breathtaking to see. It is known for popular tourist destinations such as Boracay, Palawan, Bohol, etc. One thing that makes the Philippines a nice place to stay in is also the food! There are many delicious Filipino desserts and snacks but most foreigners aren’t really familiar with these so here is a list of delicious desserts. Keep in mind that all these are solely based on my opinion.
My Favorite Filipino Snacks
1. Biko
This one is my favorite of all. It’s the right kind of sweet so if you’re the type of person who dislikes desserts that are too sweet then you should definitely try this. This is made of sticky rice, coconut milk, and brown sugar.
2. Turon
You can buy turon at any near street vendor. This is also served in some restaurants which sell Filipino food. Banana slices are cut thinly which are wrapped in spring roll wrappers then topped of with caramelized sugar.
3. Taho
This one is usually sold in the morning. You would hear the seller shout “Taho!” loudly. It’s best to try this during cold days since this is sold hot. This is made of fresh tofu, arnibal (brown sugar and vanilla syrup), and pearl sago (similar to pearl tapioca). You could also buy cold ones which are sold inside malls.
My Favorite Filipino Desserts
1. Leche Flan
This tasty treat is well-known and loved in the Philippines. It has egg and milk as its main ingredients. This is really easy to eat since it’s very soft, smooth and creamy. Although I would warn those of you who aren’t lovers of really sweet desserts since this is one of those.
2. Halo-Halo
You haven’t fully experienced the Filipino culture if you haven’t tried this treat! It’s called “Halo-Halo” or “Mix-Mix” in English. Different ingredients were used to make this. I strongly suggest you try this if you’re visiting the Philippines. This is best eaten during summer.
3. Buko Pandan
This sweet thing is an easy dessert to love. It tastes really delicious which is why this is served during special occasions such as birthdays or fiestas. Eating this will make you want more and more! This is made of gelatin, condensed milk, coconut and thick cream.
