MANILA—Typhoon Kammuri strengthened anew early Saturday ahead of its entry into the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), state weather bureau PAGASA said.

The tropical cyclone was packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, with gusts of up to 185 kph.

Moving northwest at a speed of 20 kph, Kammuri was forecast to enter PAR during the weekend, weather specialist Meno Mendoza said.

The storm will be locally named Tisoy, the 20th tropical cyclone to enter the country this year.

Kammuri may affect Bicol and Central Luzon, which are hosting sporting events of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or amihan will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains over Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience cloudy skies with isolated rains because of the amihan.

Palawan, the Visayas and Mindanao will also have cloudy skies with isolated rains due to localized thunderstorms.
