Diplomatic tensions between the Philippines and Kuwait spiked in February 2018. That was when the body of a murdered Filipina domestic worker was discovered in a freezer in Kuwait. Her employers, a Lebanese and a Syrian, were subsequently sentenced to death in absentia and are currently held in Lebanon and Syria respectively. About 185 Filipinos working in Kuwait died In 2016 and 2017. Some cases were suspected to be criminal ones.

The two nations relations was good for decades. But it moved close end of their diplomatic. More than 260,000 Filipinos residing in Kuwait are hanging.

The Philippines has exported labour for decades to support its economy. The exporting workers policy showed to be unsustainable. Many Filipinos are exposed to difficult and dangerous working conditions abroad.
