A weekend family bonding in Manila Bay
My house is near Manila Bay. So every weekend we walk as a family bonding and run around Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and along Manila Bay where I can dance with different instructors of zumba, enjoy the walk and run with others whom like to stay fit and healthy.
Experience boat paddling in sea shore
Let me just share my thought one time after I experienced boat paddling around Manila Bay. I enjoyed paddling with calm water along the bay. My eyes were overwhelmed of the spectacular scenery of sunshine which gives vitamin D to our body. A lot of beautiful things can be seen along the bay, awesome buildings, restaurants, yachts, ships, boats, but there are some trashes floating on the water that can cut your beautiful momentum. I even smell the odorous water. It is far way different from the refreshing sea breeze that I breathe whenever my parents brought me in Manila bay when I was a little girl.
All individual can contribute in rehabilitating Manila Bay.
It came to my mind and asked myself, what can I contribute to save Manila Bay? Who will help different government task forces in the Philippines like DENR and some LGUs’ to rehabilitate Manila bay surroundings? The answer is that simple individual can also help in our daily ways, as the DENR Calabarzon Executive Director Ipat Luna said, 90% of the pollution in Manila Bay comes from Domestic waste.
I searched Google and look for some simple ways to protect aquatic and marine resources. I found some basic yet I am not persistent in doing it and I learned that this thing has to be done consistently to help protect Mother Nature like Manila Bay.
Basic ideas about waste.
Some basic ideas which I was reminded to do is to segregate waste. I should lessen buying foods packed in plastic materials which will later add to tons of garbage. Used plastics, cans and containers can be recycle and use for other purposes.
A piece of advice.
Just a piece of advice to my fellow countrymen as well as other nationalities, saving Manila bay is not an issue concerning only establishments near the seashore, that is what the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) together with the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) is currently enforcing now a days. They become strict enforcing the laws in protecting the aqua marine specifically in and around Manila Bay. Some establishments’ has been fined and even forced to closure for polluting Manila bay and non-compliant to laws just like the rehabilitation acts last year which happened in Boracay where thousands of establishments has been demolished as part of its rehabilitation. Moreover if we think deeper we will find that it is a big issue for everyone. If we like to have a clean and healthy environment, we can do simple yet right things to save not only the Manila Bay but our mother nature.
The 3R’s
Reduce
Re-use
Recycle
A time to work together and do simple things for Manila Bay
Now is the time we need to work together. We can do simple things such as waste segregation and proper disposal; it’s for a better and fast recovery of Manila bay and for our own health benefit
Let’s make Manila Bay better than before or at least bring it back the way it was when fishermen can safely harvest seafood from it and everyone may enjoy swimming by dipping in clean water or simply by breathing fresh air We need to stop imagining of a clean Manila Bay, we must act!
