ILOILO CITY — A large fire hit a flea market on Boracay Island, Aklan early Monday, affecting stalls, houses and resorts.
The fire at D’Talipapa market was declared controlled around 9:30 a.m. nearly five hours after it started, according to Malay municipal councilor Nenette Aguirre-Graf.
The Bureau of Fire Protection was still investigating the cause and origin of the fire and extent of damage.
Aguirre said about 90 percent of D’Talipapa which had nearly 100 stalls was burned. Parts of neighboring resorts and boarding houses were damaged.
No casualties were reported as of Monday noon
